Pierre Garcon's punt epitomizes Redskins' frustrat

LANDOVER, Md. — Frustration, pure and simple. It was there in Washington Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon's terse, post-game words at his locker.

And it was obvious to a national television audience Sunday night when Garcon punted a dead ball into the FedEx Field stands late in the third quarter after a near end-zone interception by New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara.

WATCH: Pierre Garcon's frustrated kick

Garcon's display in last night's fast start that fizzled into a 24-17 collapse, eliminating the Redskins from the postseason, came during a night when he caught a season-high nine passes for 61 yards. But safety Will Hill sealed the win by stripping Garcon of the football, recovering at the Washington 43-yard line with 1:18 left following Garcon's 6-yard, fourth-down catch.

GAME: Redskins fall further into irrelevance

Asked why he kicked the football, drawing a five-yard delay-of-game penalty before Kai Forbath's 33-yard, third-quarter field goal, Garcon said, "Because we didn't score a touchdown. We spotted 75 yards and didn't score a touchdown. I punted it harder ...

"Losing is hard to deal with. I'm disappointed we're out of the playoffs. We play for the playoffs. It's disappointing."

Pierre Garcon's punt epitomizes Redskins' frustration

Garcon had a pair of fourth-quarter drops on a night when he reached 980 receiving yards for the season. That surpassed his previous career high of 947 receiving yards in 2011 with the Indianapolis Colts.

CONTROVERSY: Refs take back Redskins first down

With a team-high 84 catches, Garcon is on pace for 112 receptions, which would eclipse Hall of Famer Art Monk's single-season team record of 106 receptions in 1984.

The loss dropped the Redskins to 0-5 in prime-time this season, and the Redskins came undone with four drops during the second half when quarterback Robert Griffin III said the team shot itself in the foot with three penalties, Kyle Nelson's botched snap on a punt and an offense that converted just 1-of-8 third-down attempts.

"Yeah, there was a little frustration," RG3 said. "But it's all frustration because we want to win football games.

"He (Garcon) knows he can't do that. We have to keep our composure out on the field."
